FAQs
What is the Go Bright Fun Run?
The Go Bright Fun Run is a 5k fun run organised by Mind in Harrogate District, in partnership with Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal (National Trust). It’s designed to be inclusive and welcoming, whether you run, jog or walk, while raising funds for local mental health support. Our first Go Bright Fun Run takes place on Sunday 19th July 2026 at 9am.
Is this a race or a fun run?
This is a fun run, not a competitive race. You are welcome to take part at your own pace. The run is not timed.
Is there a fancy dress theme?
Yes! The theme is ‘Go Bright for mental health’, so think neon colours, face paint, glitter, tutus, capes – anything bright, bold and fun. Fancy dress is totally optional, but there will be prizes for Best Fancy Dress Adult, Child and Dog, so feel free to go all out.
(Please wear appropriate footwear, avoid anything that restricts movement or vision, and ensure dogs are comfortable wearing costumes)
What time does the run start?
The run will start at 9:00am. We recommend arriving from 8:00am onwards to allow time for parking, registration and taking part in the warm‑up.
Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal opens to the general public at 9:30am. To avoid the crowds, we have been given special permission and exclusive access to host the run before the site opens, which means we have the stunning grounds to ourselves.
Can spectators watch the run?
Because the run takes place before public opening, only Go Bright Fun Run ticket holders can access the grounds at 9:00am. If friends or family wish to watch the run itself, they will need to take part or purchase a Go Bright Fun Run ticket.
Can National Trust members or day visitors watch the run?
No. National Trust members and day visitors can access the grounds from 9:30am, but by that time the run will already be underway or finished, so they will miss the run itself. Only Go Bright Fun Run ticket holders can access the grounds ahead of public opening.
Can fun run ticket holders stay at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal after the run?
Yes. Go Bright Fun Run ticket holders are welcome to stay on after the event and enjoy the activities on the Ball Games Field as well as explore the wider grounds.
Where should I park?
There is plenty of free parking on site. We will be using Car Park B. Event marshals will be on hand to direct you.
Who can take part?
The event is open to adults and children, teams and dogs! Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Do I need to be an experienced runner?
Not at all. This event is designed for all abilities, including first‑time runners and walkers.
Are dogs allowed?
Yes. Dogs are very welcome, as long as they are kept on a short lead at all times and are comfortable around other people and dogs.
Are prams and wheelchairs welcome?
Yes. Prams and wheelchairs are welcome. The route is fully accessible but it is hilly in parts.
What’s happening after the run?
Once the run finishes, there will be fancy dress prize giving, hosting from Your Harrogate Radio, lots of music, and a fun, celebratory atmosphere on the Ball Games Field. Families can also enjoy children’s activities as part of the National Trust’s Summer of Play, making it a great day out for all ages.
Can I fundraise as part of the run?
Yes. We actively encourage runners to raise sponsorship, please set up a Just Giving Page under our Go Bright campaign here.
Will photos be taken?
Yes. An event photographer will be capturing the day, and photos may be used for promotional purposes after the event. If you prefer not to be photographed, please let a member of staff know on the day.
What if I can’t take part after I’ve bought a ticket?
Tickets are non‑refundable, but places can be transferred to another participant. Please contact us if you need to update details.
Can't take part but would like to donate?
Thank you! We welcome all donations via our Go Bright Fun Run Page.
