“Better Days” – A gentle message of hope in support of Mind in Harrogate District
Local mental health charity Mind in Harrogate District is proud to announce the upcoming release of “Better Days” – a brand-new charity single created by artist Second Suns and released by Crowded Room Records. The track will be released this December, with 100% of All proceeds from the pre-order sales, downloads and donations supporting the charity’s vital work.
The song comes from long-time musicians and friends Nige Harrison and Tony Harrison, whose recent reunion sparked a shared commitment: to use their music to make a difference, encourage community cohesion and offer hope. The pre-order date is well timed and coincides with Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month which runs throughout November.
For 15 years, Nige has been part of the Mind in Harrogate District team as a Wellbeing Support Practitioner – supporting people, guiding them to the right services, and helping to create spaces where conversations about mental health feel safe, normal and human. Over that time, he has seen firsthand the transformative impact that timely, compassionate support can have.
While carrying out this work, Nige continued nurturing his passion for music and songwriting, and is well known across the Harrogate music scene. This is something he once shared with friend and fellow musician, Tony. The two had previously performed and written together and were known for engaging their community. But life took them in separate directions. Eight months ago, they reconnected. And almost immediately, the old spark returned.
Their conversations naturally turned to the work Mind in Harrogate District does – the people supported every day, the importance of early intervention, and the need to reach people who may find it difficult to open up, particularly men. Nige and Tony realised their reconnection came at exactly the right time. They wanted to create something positive, something that could raise both awareness and funds. And so, “Better Days” was born.
“Better Days” is the result of two musicians using their skills and their platform to continue what Nigel has done for over a decade and a half: offer encouragement, empathy, and a reminder that support is always available.
The song’s message aligns perfectly with the work of Mind in Harrogate District mission. Every day, Mind in Harrogate District provides services, advice and safe spaces for people experiencing challenges with their mental health. Their work is made possible by community support – and this project is a powerful example of that support in action.
Tina Chamberlain, Chief Executive at Mind in Harrogate District, said:
“This song reflects exactly what we aim to provide – hope. Nigel has been a trusted part of our organisation for 15 years and seeing him channel his experience and passion into something creative, meaningful, and supportive is incredibly powerful. ‘Better Days’ is more than a song; it’s an invitation for people to talk, to reach out, and to know they’re not alone. We are really grateful to Nige and Tony for their support.”
Nige Harrison, said:
“Before joining Mind in Harrogate District as a member of staff, I spent time volunteering and saw firsthand the difference their support makes to people’s lives. That experience shaped me, and it’s why I feel so strongly about being part of this campaign.
As a member of Second Suns, I’m proud that our single Better Days will contribute directly to Mind in Harrogate Districts work. All proceeds from pre orders and downloads, along with donations through the official campaign, will go towards helping those who need it most.
This song is about hope and resilience, and for me it’s personal. I’ve seen how vital Mind’s services are, and I know the impact that even small acts of support can have. By sharing this music, we’re inviting people to stand with us and help bring better days to others.”
