What is it like to volunteer at Mind in Harrogate District?
Katie’s story: I am a psychology student with a passion for mental health and I chose to volunteer at Mind in Harrogate to help make a meaningful impact in my community whilst gaining practical experience in the field. The opportunity to support individuals and hear their stories has been incredibly rewarding. I have challenged myself to step out of my comfort zone and develop my communication skills in ways that will be crucial for my future career. The warmth and guidance of staff have made my experience even more fulfilling as they’ve not only welcomed me into the team but have taught me so much!
Mike’s story: I look forward to my befriending sessions. Knowing and hoping you could be making a positive difference to someone’s life is uplifting. Building and sustaining a relationship between a befriender and befriendee can be challenging. However, when you form a connection and see the progress that can follow it is immensely rewarding.
Vicki’s story: I chose to volunteer with Mind in Harrogate District because it is a charity that helped me in the past when I was experiencing difficulties with my mental health. I volunteer with the Friday Feast group by making drinks and getting to know the wonderful service users and help regularly on trips which is always good fun. My experience of volunteering with Mind in Harrogate District has been extremely positive and rewarding. I have learnt about how important Mind in Harrogate District is for the service users. From my very first visit to the Acorn Centre I was made to feel welcome and it now feels like being part of a family. I always look forward to my time as a volunteer – it is a highlight of my week. There are lots of free training opportunities available for volunteers and taking part in the volunteer forums is also a good way to meet new people and feel supported.
Simon’s story: Participating with Mind in Harrogate District has bought me huge personal meaning and a wonderful range of new friends. I truly recommend people to get involved and become a part of this wonderful organisation.
