Finding Connection and Confidence Through Mind in Harrogate District

When this service user first came to Mind in Harrogate District, he described wanting what he called “back-up support.” He explained that simply knowing our team was there if he needed us gave him reassurance and a sense of fellowship.

Before joining us, he lived with his parents, who have since sadly passed away. Over the years, he received some support from the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) and a Community Psychiatric Nurse (CPN), but he wasn’t always consistently engaged with services. Around ten years ago, he was referred to Mind in Harrogate District by Living Well — and since then, our support has become an important part of his daily life.

Building Community and Connection

He now enjoys being an active member of our community groups. From joining the walking group and taking part in excursions to sharing meals at the centre, he has found genuine connection and friendship. He’s never short of people to talk to — and particularly enjoys playing pool with other members.

“I feel relaxed and safe with Mind in Harrogate District. The one-to-one support and meeting people has made such a positive impact on my health and wellbeing.”

Positive Change and Looking Forward

Being part of Mind in Harrogate District has helped him grow in confidence and reduced the isolation he once felt. Our support has also eased the pressure on his brothers, who have shared how valuable the service has been for the whole family.

Looking ahead, his focus is on maintaining his wellbeing day by day. In time, he hopes to travel more and explore opportunities for voluntary work. Above all, he remains deeply grateful for the encouragement and care he has received from our team over the years.

When asked what advice he would give to someone thinking about reaching out to Mind in Harrogate District, his answer was simple:

“Go for it — and see what you can achieve.”
