The Mental Elf 5K Fun Run Raises Vital Funds for Mental Health in Harrogate District
On Sunday, 1st December 2024, the beautiful grounds of Conyngham Hall in Knaresborough set the stage for the first-ever Mental Elf 5K Fun Run. Over 250 participants came together, many donning festive costumes, to support mental health services in the Harrogate District.

The event was a resounding success, raising over £7,500 so far, with donations still coming in. All proceeds will directly support Mind in Harrogate District, funding essential mental health initiatives, including counselling for 11 to 18 year-olds and Drawing and Talking interventions for younger children.
Holly Astbury, from Mind in Harrogate District, expressed her gratitude for the community’s enthusiasm:
“We are absolutely thrilled with the success of our first Mental Elf 5K Fun Run. The community has shown incredible support, with participants, volunteers, and sponsors all coming together to make the day truly special. The funds raised will go a long way in supporting mental health services for children and young people in the Harrogate District.”
“The enthusiasm and generosity of everyone involved have been heartwarming. Corporate teams, families, and individuals all embraced the event, showing that this really is a fantastic way to come together, get active, and make a difference. We’re already looking forward to next year!”

Fun for All
The scenic 5K route offered a family-friendly challenge, with participants of all ages enjoying the course, which followed the Conyngham Hall parkrun route. Jimi from Coach Gyms led an energetic warm-up session, getting everyone ready to go. The gym also sponsored goody bags and provided 12-month memberships to the fastest finishers:
- Fastest Male: James Verity of Verity Frearson Estate Agents
- Fastest Female: Gemma Kilbride
Nick Hancock of Your Harrogate Radio hosted the event, keeping the crowd entertained with festive tunes and his warm, lively commentary. The crowd also enjoyed a performance by the Harrogate Rock Choir and a fun fancy dress competition, with prizes donated by Mother Shipton’s Cave and Rudding Park. The award for Best Dressed Dog went to Tilly the Spaniel, who delighted everyone with her festive outfit and took home a gift box from HG Pets.
Local Businesses Show Their Support
The event was proudly sponsored by Strive Group, whose team of 16 runners joined the fun, highlighting their commitment to the cause. Several other local businesses also entered teams, including S&SA Architects, McCormicks Solicitors, and Harrogate Mumbler, demonstrating the strength of community support and the event’s appeal as a team-building opportunity.
